Mercedes Platz

Open daily

In addition to the Potsdamer Platz with its modern architecture, the capital in the district of Friedrichshain (between Ostbahnhof and S & U station Warschauer Straße – opposite the East Side Gallery) now has another place in modern style. However, the Mercedes place is rather compact with numerous entertainment options, such as: music & concert halls, cinemas, bowling alleys, hotels, restaurants, bars, cafes and much more. On October 13, 2018, I took part in Opening Day with a friend: we strolled across the square and let many great locations with imaginative facilities work on us. Everything seems like a small town in the city on me. We also looked behind the scenes of the Mercedes-Benz Arena. It was interesting to see what an artist’s wardrobe or the Eisbären (Icehockey) cabin looks like for the team, or even the big logistics that have to be mastered. Next, we got an overview of the Bowling Lounge, visited the 260° Bar & Café with a rooftop terrace on one of the buildings, with panoramic views across the River Spree, heading for City West. Afterwards we met with friends and acquaintances on terraces of various gastronomic facilities and spent some time there. As another highlight of the “Open House” we enjoyed the multi-media show. It was a great combination of light, laser, water, music and fireworks. During our several hour visit to the Mercedes place, I paid attention as well as I as “visible queer” is heard. I felt comfortable and at no time out of place. In addition, all the people involved in the operation of the place met me positive and contributed to my many impressions to an eventful day. A place that has a lot to offer, something shielded from the noise of big cities and reminds me of the Sihlcity district in Zurich…an urban entertainment center.
